Bentley Station footbridge and path closures and diversions - Update
Because of the fatality at Bentley Station, Network Rail are planning to close the level crossing/footpath crossings at Buckshorn Oak.
Footpath Bentley 55 has been closed and blocked off. Alton Ramblers supported this change on safety grounds, as South West Railways are now operating 12 coach trains through Bentley. The alternative route to this path 55 is to track round to the station crossing on footpaths 44 and 38. The station crossing will remain unaltered

Rights of Way – “Restoring The Record”
Did you know that there are literally hundreds of unrecorded public rights of way in most counties throughout the UK and you may be walking on one next week!
On 1st Jan 2026, that is less than 8 years from now, the Definitive Map will be definitive and rights of way not shown on the map will cease to exist. That path you may be walking on next week may be closed off! Eight years sounds quite a long time but the date was fixed at the millennium when there were 25 years, which seemed long enough at the time, but little has been done in the past 15!
