Walking in Europe
You probably already know that membership in the Ramblers assigns you to a local walking group, but you have unlimited access to walk with over 500 groups across England, Scotland, and Wales.
In addition, the Ramblers are a member of the European Ramblers Association (ERA). An ERA-affiliated organisation is part of a network of over 60 walking organisations in 30+ countries. There is no formal "free entry" to paid events, but most European clubs will welcome Ramblers members on their group walks for free or at the local member rate upon presentation of your membership card. It is a "gentleman’s agreement" of mutual hospitality rather than a legal entitlement.
This year Eurorando 2026 is being run, which is a European hiking festival taking place from September 20-27, 2026, in the beautiful Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) along the German-Czech border. Ramble through stunning landscapes with a selection of 50+ trails, from scenic walks to challenging hikes.
Perhaps there is a local group that you could join the next time you are walking in Europe.

Alton Ramblers support Alton Walking Festival
Walk Alton and Alton Town Council announced the Alton Walking Festival, with a series of walks throughout the month of May. The festival has scheduled a range of walks from a gentle stroll to something more challenging, covering greater distances. Alton Ramblers are pleased to support the festival by offering walks led by our trained walk leaders to everyone in the walking community.

East Berkshire Ramblers Visit Selborne – 12th March 2026
Funding from the Ramblers and the East Berkshire Ramblers contributed to the installation of three kissing gates by the Alton Footpath Maintenance Team last year. Paul Naish, the footpath maintenance manager, led a walk from Selborne on the 12th March 2026 to showcase the three gates to invited members of the East Berkshire Ramblers who had contributed to the project.

New Walking Routes for 2026
In 2026, we added five new walking routes to the library of over 200 routes. If you're a walk leader or walker, please share your walking routes by recording them using the OSMaps app and exporting a GPX file for loading into the library. Email it to the webmaster for sharing with our walking community. You can find the latest routes by searching for '2026' in the routes library.

Update: Walkers warned to be careful near Binswood
Police have advised walkers in the Binswood area to be careful and walk in groups due to reports of threatening behaviour from a local resident.
Regular visitors to the area may know this has been a problem in the past. The trouble spot is at the edge of Binswood at Marshgreen Farm on the path from King John's Hill (shown here with a red oval), and it forms part of the West Worldham Loop described on the Walk Alton routes page.
Police currently have no evidence enabling further action, and they advise against any action that might provoke the resident. While walking on the path, be prepared to record the audio of any verbal interaction and, if necessary, record a video of any threatening behaviour.
